We received a request for a Gen Med admission today from ED. The handover from ED was, "Yeah, we think that this patient needs to come in under Gen Med. Can you come see her? She's an 80 year old lady who has come in from nursing home who spits at people. Um...we're going to sedate her later so we can examine her and take some bloods but just wanted to let you know that she exists."
So basically, the ED physicians decided that this lady needs a Gen Med admission because she's demented and spits at people. They don't even know what's wrong with her!! How on earth do they expect us to do an admission then?

80 year old lady admitted from HLC with spitting. Her behaviour is obviously more problematic than before but we don't actually know what's wrong with her yet.
