Emergency Registrar

0900 Patient came into ED, found to be in AF with RVR. Placed on cardiac monitoring.

1200 General Medicine referral made by ED.

1600 General Medical registrar finally finds the time to go and see the patient for admission. Patient heart rate at this time: 140 beats per min.

Went to ask an ED nurse, "What have you given this patient for rate control so far?"

Answer, "Nothing."

Asked, "What? Why haven't you given him anything? He's persistently tachycardic!"

Answer, "The registrar said to wait for the General Medical doctors to decide."
